Reaching Yamunotri involves a combination of road travel and trekking, as it is located in a remote and mountainous area.

Here’s a detailed guide on how to reach Yamunotri:

1. By Air (Nearest Airport):


The nearest airport to Yamunotri is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. Dehradun is approximately 210 kilometers away from Yamunotri, and the airport is well connected to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chandigarh. The airport has both domestic flights and limited international connections.

From Dehradun Airport to Yamunotri: Once you arrive at Jolly Grant Airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Yamunotri. The distance from the airport to Uttarkashi (the nearest town to Yamunotri) is about 170 kilometers and takes around 5-6 hours by road. From Uttarkashi, you can take another taxi or bus to Janki Chatti or Hanuman Chatti, which are the base points for the trek to Yamunotri.

2. By Train (Nearest Railway Station):


The nearest railway station to Yamunotri is Dehradun Railway Station, which is well-connected to major cities in India, including Delhi, Haridwar, and Mumbai. Dehradun is about 200 kilometers from Yamunotri.

From Dehradun to Yamunotri: Once you reach Dehradun Railway Station, you can hire a taxi, book a private vehicle, or take a bus to Uttarkashi (around 170 kilometers, about 5-6 hours). From Uttarkashi, proceed to Janki Chatti or Hanuman Chatti to begin the trek to the Yamunotri Temple.
Alternatively, you can also take a train to Haridwar, which is another major railway hub in Uttarakhand, located around 300 kilometers from Yamunotri. From Haridwar, you can take a bus or taxi to Uttarkashi and then proceed to Janki Chatti or Hanuman Chatti.

3. By Road (To Jnakichatti, Then Trek):


Yamunotri is well connected by road, but it is important to note that the last part of the journey requires a trek. The journey to Yamunotri involves traveling to Janki Chatti, followed by a trek to Janki Chatti or Hanuman Chatti, which are the starting points for the Yamunotri pilgrimage.
